Ingredients
Phyllo Base
- 1 tbsp butter (melted)
- 1 tbsp neutral oil (such as avocado oil)
- 8 sheets phyllo dough (14 x 9 inches)
Filling
- 8 ounces light cream cheese
- 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 cup whipped topping
Toppings
- 1 can (11 oz) mandarin oranges, drained or 2 to 3 fresh peeled mandarin oranges
- 4 kiwifruit, peeled and sliced
- 1 ½ cups sliced strawberries
Decoration
- 1 oz white baking chocolate (melted)
Instructions
- Prepare Butter Mixture: In a small bowl, thoroughly combine the melted butter and neutral oil to create a mixture for brushing onto the phyllo dough.
- Layer Phyllo Sheets: Place one sheet of phyllo dough on a baking sheet and brush it evenly with the butter and oil mixture. Repeat this process with the remaining seven sheets, brushing each sheet before adding the next to create multiple thin, crispy layers.
- Bake Phyllo Layers: Bake the layered phyllo dough in a preheated oven at 400°F (204°C) for 5 to 7 minutes until the layers turn golden brown and crispy. Allow the baked phyllo to cool completely before assembling the tart.
- Prepare Filling: While the phyllo is cooling, beat the light cream cheese in a bowl until smooth and creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, continuing to beat until fully incorporated. Gently fold in the whipped topping to create a light and fluffy filling mixture.
- Assemble Tart: Spread the prepared cream cheese filling evenly over the cooled phyllo crust, creating a smooth layer that will hold the fruit toppings.
- Add Fruit Toppings: Arrange the drained mandarin oranges, peeled and sliced kiwifruit, and sliced strawberries attractively over the filling, ensuring an even and colorful distribution.
- Decorate with Chocolate: Melt the white baking chocolate in the microwave using 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval until smooth. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the fruit toppings in an appealing pattern to finish the dessert.
Notes
- Ensure phyllo dough sheets remain covered with a damp cloth while working to prevent drying out.
- Use light cream cheese and whipped topping for a lighter dessert with lower fat content.
- Fresh fruit can substitute canned mandarins; just ensure they are peeled and well-drained to avoid sogginess.
- Melt chocolate carefully to prevent burning by using short microwave intervals and stirring frequently.
- Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator and consume within 1-2 days for best freshness.
